Lead Technical Artist / Gameplay Programmer · Blue Goo Games · published by Kwalee
Space Chef is a 2D top-down cooking and exploration game made in Unity by Blue Goo Games. You hunt alien ingredients across the galaxy, cook them and deliver them to customers. It was published by Kwalee and released on Steam in October 2025.
I was the lead technical artist and a gameplay programmer. I created and improved the VFX for the game's mechanics and worked on rendering performance.
An animated shoreline where water meets land on the planets, with a moving foam line along the edge.
Lightning strikes on the planet surface, with an impact on the ground where each bolt lands.
A planet-wide weather event: wind and dust sweeping across the whole screen while the player keeps playing.
A highlight on the objects the player can interact with, so stations and items read clearly in a busy ship interior.
Switching weapons caused visible frame drops. Profiling traced them to unnecessary texture memory allocation and oversized textures, which I fixed. Beyond VFX, I also designed and improved the inventory system and built AI creatures with behaviour trees.
